Transitions to Online Exam Alternatives with Cadmus

“Cadmus allowed us to stay true to the intended learning outcomes, and provide a higher degree of authenticity and scaffolding to students than alternative tools and approaches would allow.“

Like many universities, 2020 forced ECU to quickly implement a fully remote alternative to invigilated exams. While proctoring was briefly considered, without any testing at scale, ECU was not confident in an institution-wide rollout. Instead, the university wanted to provide a solution that assessed student progress and learning outcomes, while taking a holistic approach to academic integrity. Making an active decision to move away from ‘exams’, ECU used Cadmus to deliver online 'alternative assessment' across ten faculties and schools. The success of Cadmus was evidenced by an exceptionally high student experience score (89%) during an otherwise challenging year. Response from academics and faculty was equally positive, with many subjects continuing to use Cadmus for exam alternatives instead of traditional invigilated exams.
